Introducing your child to the world of dirt bikes isn’t just an exciting time for them – it can be just as rewarding (or scary!) for you. When you’re first considering introducing them to the world of powered vehicles, it can be tricky to know how to get them started.
At Riders & Rollers, we’re no strangers to setting kids up for a life on two wheels, and have compiled our top Q and As for getting kids started off.
- What age to start them off
The time your child starts off on a dirt bike is entirely dependent on them and you. Every child is different and some take to riding more easily than others. We often find that kids around the age of four find it easier to manoeuvre the bikes and we always recommend that parents are near the track so that they can help them if they fall.
- Isn’t racing just for boys?
No! Most of the time boys and girls race together, but when they reach their teenage years, girls may want to be a part of a women’s group.
- What type of racing uses a dirt bike?
Kids can either race indoors or outdoors. Indoor tracks have tighter corners and narrower jumps, while the outdoor tracks have more room between jumps and longer stretches to go at, meaning the bikes can go even faster.
- What size bike should we go for?
The best piece of advice here is to go for one that fits your child’s size and weight. Some people buy the bigger bikes with the idea that their child will grow into it, but this isn’t necessarily the best thing to do.
Buying a dirt bike that’s just the right fit will ensure that your child can manoeuvre the bike effectively, making it safer and easier to use. Dirt bikes hold their value very well, so outgrown bikes are easy to sell on.
- What brand of dirt bike is best?
At Riders & Rollers we stock a range of kids’ buggies, quad bikes, dirt bikes and balance boards in various well-respected brands including Stomp, Thumpstar, iWheel, Skatey and Razor. Our dirt bikes are made by the well revered Falcon, and start at £369.99.
